After Last weeks resurgence of the old guard it is all about the finest young indie bands in the country this week.

Playlist now on Tidal!!!

Single of the week: Morn – The Standard Model

We have been shouting about the quality of this Welsh band for a few months now and here is the latest indicator of a very special new talent. The better half of a double A-side release absolutely fizzes with energy and confidence.

Man/Woman/Chainsaw – Nosedive

A year or so further down the hype train than where Morn currently reside are the outrageously talented Londoner’s Man/Woman/Chainsaw. They are now signed to Fiction Records and the debut album Cannonball is out on August the 7th. This new single is EPIC. Brilliant guitar sound, beautiful violin and the vocals just keep getting better and better.

Bleech 9:3 – Underrated

Another band, this time Irish, rapidly spiraling into the mainstream consciousness. This track has a nice heavy rock edge to it. They are doing a lot of festivals this Summer including Reading, Wilderness and Truck, make sure you check them out.

Alien Chicks – 5/4

If you like your loud guitar music to have a hint of the avant garde about it look no further than Alien Chicks. A track in 5/4 time with a brief interpolation of the Teddy Bear’s Picnic? Absolutely, if it is Alien Chicks delivering it. A post-punk outfit with hints of jazz, rap and more straight up punk from South London.

Belle Dame – Lusitania

Is it about the sinking of The Lusitania in the Second World War? No. What it is – another corking track from this up and coming indie band based in Bristol. They were one of the winners of the unsigned band support slot for Only The Poets at Brixton Academy back in January

DIVIL – Thanks a Million

Despite having possibly the worst lyric we have heard in a track all year, “Like a baby needs Calpol, I’m stuck in my head and I can’t get out” (seriously, WTF?, does it even vaguely make sense?) this debut single from yet, yet, yet another talented new Irish band has grown and grown on us over the last week. A trio of childhood friends from Dublin with an EP coming on the 19th of June.

Nxdia – Lovemesick

Super talented alt-pop artist. We pried ourselves away from Limp Bizkit at Reading last year to catch her set and it did not disappoint. A superstar in the making who mixes their singing between English and Arabic.

Ed O’Brien – Incantations

Whilst Thom and Jonny hog all the headlines – be it Radiohead, The Smile or film soundtrack work – Radiohead guitarist Ed O’Brien’s solo work is showing that he brings an awful lot to the main band as well. His 2020 debut solo work Earth was a great listen. Follow up Blue Morpho is out May 22nd.

Also on the playlist: CQ Wrestling, Basement, ALT BLK ERA, Luvcat, Blossoms, Beck and many more.
