We gatecrash the Line of Best Fit’s Five Day Forecast on January 15th to catch a stacked line-up of new talent.
We love The Lexington, and we love new bands, so this one was a no brainer. Morn were the main draw but we enjoyed Sean Trelford’s work in the couple of days before the gig as well.
Morn
Welsh band Morn already made ripples in 2025, despite only having one released single. They have picked up a shed load of recommendations and appeared in a Fred Perry co-promotion with the Music Venue Trust. It quickly becomes obvious as to why. There is huge energy here. The band consist of two pairs of siblings, the Ribas on guitar and the Ryders making the bass and drums engine room.

Despite only appearing around June 2023 this is a tight, well drilled musical unit. All three guitarists take turns or share vocals. The words are slightly lost in a murky mix tonight but one listen to their single ‘Modern Man’ lets you know there is plenty of strength here too. They define their sound as doom over beautiful chords. Modern Man rolls along at a rollicking pace, showing plenty of technical ability and interesting shared lead vocals which are just a fraction out of sync. It is brilliant and we urgently need more from them to listen to.

They are next playing in London on the 1st of February at The George Tavern. They also offer us a Welsh Extravaganza at The Windmill on St David’s Day.

Ain’t
Ain’t were new to us but also a lot of fun. In a one I most definitely haven’t heard before story, their singer, Hanna Baker Darch, was bitten by a rabid cat at a bat sanctuary in Turkey a few days previously and is currently taking the rabies vaccine for it. She readily admits to being a little bit out of it, but it is a sterling effort under the circumstances.

They do a nice line in quiet/loud songs, shifting gears well on a number of occasions. There are five very solid singles out on streaming services. This is a nice mix of alt-rock, post-punk and a hint of shoegaze. They should definitely have an eye kept on them.

Sean Trelford
It was Morn who drew our attention to this gig but it quickly became clear that Sean Trelford is a serious talent. His Ulcer EP, released in December has some quality tracks on it and represents a clear step up from the decent nine track album he put out in 2022. BBC Radio One have given him a few plays on their new music show over the last month. He does a nice line in lo-fi indie, with the odd hint of psychedelia.
It is safe to say Sean is not quite what we were expecting. He is clearly blown away to be headlining the bill tonight and is self deprecating to the point of self flagellation, an almost constant random stream of consciousness between tracks. He talks about his band doing A-levels so Sean is clearly not much beyond this point himself. His Mum is in the audience and is obviously very proud.

“This song is called Hide. It is about hiding away from emotions and feelings. See what I did there?” It is all decent enough, but there is currently a big difference between the promising recorded work and this somewhat ramshackle live offering.

He clearly has talent, if he can find some stage confidence and keep going then he could be a very impressive artist in a few years.
They finish the set with a cute cover of ‘Ain’t No Sunshine When She’s Gone.’
It has been a bit of a mixed bag this evening but all three acts have a lot going for them and are likely to finish 2026 in a much stronger position than they start it here.
