The third EP from the cellist and multi-instrumentalist.

Midori Jaegar has spent time growing up and studying in both Japan and the UK. She began learning the cello when she was eight years old. She was classically trained at the Royal Academy of Music, but increasingly pushed back against that rigidity and started to try and find her own identity as a musical artist. Across these five tracks she plays cello, bass synth, synth, and cavaquinho. A friend provided the drums.

These five tracks are highly emotive, world building pieces of music. There is a clear talent at work here. Her vocals on ‘dark green’ are the first thing that grabs you, then you start to notice the almost jazz styled bass plucking going on under it and the beautiful bursts of instruments that punctuate it. It is a really strong track. ‘exasperate’ comes from a very similar place.

The remaining three tracks all have much to offer. Jaeger is an artist with a very distinct sense of identity already and a bright future. This EP is well worth your time.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Essential Tracks: ‘dark green’ and ‘exasperate.’
