Well intentioned, but question inducing, allie rock music.

If you want to bury your head to what an absolute dumpster fire the USA is right now then this debut album is going to be a hard pass. Everything comes under the band’s heavy rock/metal microscope – misogyny, Christian nationalism, ICE immigration policy, toxic masculinity, radicalisation and plenty more.

Wealthy Women.

The trio can certainly play, and they have established a clear identity on this collection of songs. The vocal delivery is quite samey across them all. Whilst there is plenty of worthy content contained  within, it would benefit from some sort of variation across the set of tracks. Musically, they can drop the hammer hard when they want to, ‘Atheist Wife’ is a particular highlight.

What keeps coming back into my thinking, after a number of listens, is that as well intentioned as it is, ultimately it feels a little bit like mansplaining. From the band name, to the constant exploration of day to day female struggles it would all feel a bit more genuine if it was coming from a female rock band. Whilst I enjoyed listening to this album I can’t help but think I would much rather have been listening to the same message from Die Spitz or Lambrini Girls.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Essential Tracks: ’37 Days,’ ‘Take It Back’ ‘Atheist Wife.’
