Visceral, thrilling, hardcore tinged, garage-punk-rock at its finest.

Carving out a niche as an explosive live act for more than six years, Manchester’s Bruise Control are firing on all cylinders on this new release.

There are six tracks here, one just scrapes the three minute mark. The first vocal that comes in is a fiercely felt roar of a scream. It sets the tone nicely for all that follows. This is foot to the floor, impassioned, vibrant stuff. Across the EP there is a feeling of frustration with modern living, apathy, anger and genuine rage. It also covers trying not to feel guilty about having a good time whilst you are dealing with all that daily pressure.

Picking a favourite track is hard here as everything hits the mark in style. ‘Spinners Mill’ is superb. ‘Gone To Ground’ is like Lemmy fronting The Hives. ‘If Yr Not Mine’ takes a few seconds to achieve take-off velocity but is then absolutely ferocious garage rock. ‘Jumping Ship’ brings the pace down a fraction but it is hardly a ballad.

This is a stunning, nearly flawless collection of tracks and a step up from their 2023 debut album. They are playing at the Facebar in Reading on the 9th of March and this feels like an essential one to be at. Annoyingly, it does clash with the equally full on local band Skunkworm playing at the Purple Turtle on the same night, which would have otherwise been a must attend.
