This post A-Level all girl band drop a stunning calling card. Out November 28th.

Some bands take a decade to find their feet, some arrive almost fully formed. There are five tracks on this EP, and they hint at a bright future for all involved. Red Ivory formed at school in 2021 and put out a couple of singles in 2022 and 2023 aged about 15 and 16. The band is made up of Frida Olaberria (guitarist), Ivy Adams (drummer), Berenice L’étrange (bassist) and  Eiliyah Redha (singer and guitarist). They were one of six recipients of The Festival Republic Re:Balance initiative for 2024 that paired them with producer Adele Phillips who has engineered for Fontaines DC, Harry Styles, Grian Chatten, Royel Otis and Celeste. Re:Balance aims to give female bands and artists access to a strong start in the music industry. Phillips has helped to take the raw potential of their tracks and aid the girls in crafting a stronger end product.

The EP starts with recent Single of The Week ’12th October.’ It takes a few moments to get going from a laid-back groove, but it has an instantly classic sound once it does. It would have been just as at home in the 1970s or 1990s as it is today. Another Single of The Week ‘Crashing Down’ follows. Don’t be lulled by the slow and gentle start, it soon begins building in momentum until it hits a ferocious pace. The vocal performances on both tracks have a maturity that exceeds their years.

Of the three new tracks ‘Interlude’ is an atmospheric minute of music. ‘Hate The Way’ comes in fast out of the gates after the two previous slower build starts. This is a touch gentler as well. The tracks on this EP were originally written between 2021 and 2024, lyrically they hit upon strongly teenage themes. ‘My Mind’ is the closing track – again demonstrating a strong rhythm unit and a really cohesive band style.

Missing them at the Purple Turtle on the 5th of November will be one of our biggest regrets of 2025. The Re:Balance package should see them play on at least one Festival Republic Bill next year, we will cross our fingers for Reading. With hints of grunge, post-punk, indie-rock and a clear love of Sonic Youth, we will be keeping a close eye on what they do next.

Catch them live:

November 28th – London – The Windmill Brixton: EP Launch show.

December 3rd – London – Sebright Arms, Hackney (Still Listening Magazine show).
