New York based grungegaze band Glimmer release their debut album.

Glimmer mix elements of shoegaze, grunge, and dream-pop to combine into an album that is both classic sounding and current. Fans of the Foo Fighters are going to find themselves instantly at home here. Each track taken individually has a strong sound. There are some fantastic intros on this album and plenty of them morph into excellent, fully formed tracks. Collectively there is a feeling that some of the tracks bleed into each other and don’t have a distinct enough identity, however the high points are very high.

Glimmer.

‘WHEN EVERYTHING WAS SPRING’ absolutely crushes it with strong, heavy rock guitar. ‘TO BELIEVE’ and ‘DISSOLVE’ carry on the great start. It is from ‘THIS GOOD’ where the sense of deja-vu starts to set in. ‘BLOOM’ is the only track that is allowed to be a little bit slower and quieter. The album would have benefited from more of these changes of pace, as the wall of guitar sound that is their default setting contributes to the feeling of similarity.

Have a listen, pick out your favourites and add them to a nice loud playlist. You will appreciate them greatly, you just might not enjoy another three versions of the same thing on the album quite as much.
