After a few weeks off for Reading Festival, our weekly singles round up is back and raring to go. We have thrown in a few of the best tracks from the last few weeks for a bumper edition.
Single of the Week: Florence + The Machine – Everybody Scream
A remarkable comeback single from the indomitable Florence Welch and her talented band. It seems to be playing on the themes of performance, pain, womanhood and folklore/mysticism. Welch had emergency surgery in 2023 and has been considering the limits of her body since then (she previously broke her foot jumping off stage in 2015). The video is equally eyebrow rising.
Poppy, Amy Lee, and Courtney LaPlante – End of You
Poppy and Jordan Fish gather some high powered (sonically and culturally) friends – Evanessance’s Amy Lee and Spirt Box’s Courtney LaPlante for a wonderfully heavy new track. Of the three artists work the end product leans closest to Evanessance at their absolute best.
Master Peace – There’s No More Underground
Every new single marks Master Peace as a serious musical player, though one with a huge amount of wit and sense of fun. Like a rollicking 1970’s indie guitar track where punk leans into the mainstream.

Hungry – Are You The Best Yet?
These guys will be major players in 2026. Love this single.

GANS – NIGHTWALKING
The Black Country 2 piece who are not Big Special. This has such a wonderfully classic feel to it, it is close to be being a super-polished Mark Ronson piece of pop but maintains enough of their indie sensibilities to sit alongside the rest of their work. We are at The Lexington on Tuesday to see what all the live buzz is about.

Eminem – Everybody’s Looking At Me
An unreleased track sitting on the soundtrack for the Eminem fans documentary ‘STANS.’ Other than a mention of BLACKPINK, suggesting it is more recent, there is a greatest hits set of Eminem references from Limp Bizkit to Britney and NSYNC.
Saint Etienne and Confidence Man – Brand New Me
A third single from their thirteenth (!!) album that came out on Friday. I haven’t had a minute to listen to it yet but this is breezy fun indie-dance boosted by the presence of the always brilliant Confidence Man. Saint Etienne are one of the great oddities of 90’s music. They never split up, they never became all powerful, but they are always there, plugging away.
Honeyglaze – Turn Out Right
A gorgeous demo of a track that never made it onto their album last year. Released as part of a fundraising compilation organised by Opus Kink for the Music Venue Trust.

Ashley Singh – Not Getting Better
Lovely Myles Smith-esque track from a real talent. We couldn’t get over to his BBC Introducing set at Reading Festival, but we will be keeping a look out for an opportunity to see him in person.
Die Spitz – Punishers
We have been listening to their debut album for the last week, and it is an absolute belter. They rock, they do grunge, they do heavy. They are the real deal. This is a very good track from the album, but it is rammed full of beauties.

Radio Free Alice – Empty Words
There are quite a few artists from Reading Festival buried in the playlist this week. This is one of my favourite tracks from that contingent. These guys did a very nice set.
