Dag och Natt show flashes of real potential on their shimmering debut album.

Dag och Natt, translating as “Day and Night” are from Stockholm, Sweden. The vocals are split between three of the four band members, Elia Mårtensson Almegård, Sara Engström and Maja Zetterberg. Drummer Lars Blume Jensen is the final member of the group.

There is a duality at play within their work, the same as the way day and night are contrasts in their name. The album is a soundscape where light and darkness coexist.

The album begins with ‘See Through.’ It feels heavy, but in a 1980s power ballad interpretation of heavy. There are some lovely harmonies The band describe ‘Iron Man’ as about a quiet strength that moves you forward. It certainly has a haunting quality to it.

All three singles appear in a row. ‘Falling the Same Way’ comes next. ‘Tunis’ clocks in at seven minutes.

This is by no means a perfect album. Tonally, it doesn’t shift enough. Whilst each track is well crafted it is prone to feeling repetitive. The production dazzles everything with the same shimmer. Depite three seperate vocalists they all sort of merge into one sound, it is hard to differentiate who is doing what. Despite that, at its best it soars quite magnificently and you suspect this band might well go on to bigger and better things.
