Mcxxne (pronounced max-seen), blends R & B, soul, pop and gospel. She plays on the BBC Introducing Stage at 17:30 Sunday at Reading Festival and on Friday at Leeds. We find out a little bit about her ahead of her Reading debut.
Mcxxne released her latest single ‘Show Me Your Love’ on the 27th of June. It is a confident tune, full of summer dancefloor vibes (perfect for a festival) and showcases why she was selected by BBC Introducing for one of the most coveted and competitive slots on the festival calendar.
Reading Indie Life: How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t seen you before?
Mcxxne: I would describe my music as uplifting and gets you in a motivating mood. I would also say soulful because I always put my heart into every song I write, so I hope people can feel the soul in my music.
You are from Newcastle. What is the local music scene like?
It’s definitely one to watch out for, there’s so much talent in the North East and not the typical genres we’re used to hearing like indie-rock, pop music. There’s starting to be more spaces for artists outside of those genres which is amazing to see, more events and showcases for upcoming artists.

Have you been to Leeds or Reading Festival before?
it’s actually my first time! I’m super excited! I haven’t performed at a big festival before. But I can’t wait to be on that stage and see the audience!
Tell us about your BBC Introducing journey.
Where can I start… the journey has been beautiful. I would say they’ve seen me grow, from the first song I released during the pandemic while I was still in school, having that played on BBC Introducing for the first time – to touring with DJ ACE who was with BBC 1Xtra at that time… to now performing at one of the biggest festivals in the UK… I mean it sounds like it happened in a blink of an eye but there’s been so much hard work for years and constant support from BBC Introducing, which I cannot thank them enough for being invested in my journey as an artist.
Who are your heroes or your influences?
In life, let’s say my mum is my hero. I know it sounds cliche, but I’m blessed to have her. Music wise I would say Lauryn Hill, I love her, she is one of my biggest inspirations. I would also say Rihanna and I’ll leave it at that cause this could go on forever LOL.
Who are you looking forward to seeing on the Reading/Leeds bill on your day?
Hmmm I’m excited to see the other acts on the Introducing Stage. I’m excited to see Travis Scott, even though I’ve seen him before, he is an incredible performer. I would like to see Leigh – Anne too.

By the end of 2026, the three things you would like to achieve in music are:
1. To go on a tour, with a big artist.
2. Perform in other countries around the world.
3. Stay consistent in my creativity, and release more music.
