Summer is in the air and the anthems to drive around to, with the top of the car down, are here to fill it.
Single of the Week: Kai Bosch – Summer of Love
This is one of those near perfect summer tracks, a guitar and synth-pop driven banger, by a fast-rising new UK star. Check out ‘Popstar of Your Dreams’ and ‘Spider’ to get a full sense of the range if you are unfamiliar.
Tame Impala – End of Summer
I can’t say I have always understood the fuss about Tame Impala. On this track however, Kevin Parker shies away from his more psychedelic tendencies for a more direct track driven by a thumping drumbeat. More Underworld or Chemical Brothers than Aussie rock. I suspect there will be some huge remixes for this one.
Royel Otis – say something
The new album continues shaping up to be a strong piece of work. Their Reading Festival appearance is likely to be a highlight of the weekend. Summer is a permanent state of mind for Royel and Otis.

CMAT – EURO-COUNTRY
Having just missed out on tickets for her tiny Rough Trade East gig first time around, the ignominy continues. I neglected to look at my phone during the 20-minute window when Dice were holding a ticket for me showing a) I missed out on an actual ticket close enough to be right at the top of the waiting list and b) AAAAAARRRRRGGGGHHHHHHH I have now missed out twice. Anyone at Truck Festival this weekend should check out her set or hang their heads in shame. The quest for CMAT in a small venue continues… Oh, and this song is pretty good as well (actually, it is really bloody good… I am just in a foul mood at missing out again).
sombr – 12 to 12
Barely 20 years old and insanely talented, sombr is assaulting the UK charts this year with tracks with real staying power and 25 million monthly listeners on Spotify to help keep him there.
Lola Young – d£aler
Breaking hearts by pulling out of Reading Festival with only a month to go, but another interesting track here from the new album.
Jorja Smith – With You
One of the best female vocal talents of her generation returns with another strong effort.
Confidence Man and Jade – Gossip
Confidence Man remain one of the best live experiences on the circuit right now. This collab with Jade, the Little Mix star currently on solo duties, is likely to help them reach a new audience.

SPRINTS – Rage/Beg
Double A side release from the incoming album. Plenty of big, heavy guitar sounds.
