After a flurry of activity over the last week it was clear that The Last Dinner Party were well and truly back (not that it ever felt like they had gone away).
Single of the Week: The Last Dinner Party – This is the Killer Speaking
At this point you probably know how you feel about The Last Dinner Party. You are either in the camp that loves their sense of theatricality or the one that thinks they are awful. This new single is unlikely to change your opinion. On a first listen I was a little bit, “Is that it?” as my expectations are very high for this band. However, it has taken a few listens to unpack and at this point I am loving the retro stylings and high quality craftwomanship. The sky is the limit for this gang.

Master Peace – Harley
So nearly my pick for single of the week. This is just an infectious tune, full of life and incredibly catchy.

Iona Zajac – Anton
Touring with the Pogues as their vocalist, this single is a very powerful piece of work. It touches upon her own experiences with toxic men growing up but generalises it more into the day-to-day experiences of a large percentage of women. Anton is an amalgamation of many men who abuse their sense of power.

Yttling Jazz with Joshua Idehen and Saturday, Monday – Illegal Hit
Björn Yttling is the Björn of Peter Bjorn and John fame. This is his jazz heavy project that assembles from time to time. I adore this simple yet funky track featuring a typically brilliant contribution from poet, musician and Are You Listening? Festival star Joshua Idehen.
Nine Inch Nails – As Alive As You Need Me To Be
With all his recent soundtrack work it was no surprise to find Trent Reznor involved with the new Tron: Ares film. What has been surprising is that he reassembled Nine Inch Nails properly to provide much of the soundtrack. Who knows how the film will be, Disney seem desperate to succeed with Tron as a franchise despite its patchy history. With NIN on board the soundtrack should be awesome.
Panic Shack – Pockets
A great single powered by a great girl-gang chant from the new album released on Friday.
Poptones – Say Something Now
This Danish experimental rock trio deliver up an intriguing track here that should appeal to fans of Squid.
The Valla – Look At Me Now (Fuck It)
I don’t understand why these guys aren’t huge yet. They have keen pop sensibilities combined with real instrumental and singing skill. Take out the bracketed part and this could be prime 1975.

Munboi, Henjila, Ray Wills – Yesterday
Highly local connections here as Munboi is Bracknell based and Henjila provided a great set at this year’s Are You Listening? Festival.
The Reytons – Guilt Trip
Initially sounding like an Arctic Monkeys tribute band The Reytons are gradually turning into a huge deal with a large following. This is a confident track with a heavier, almost Prodigy-esque feel to it.
