A surprisingly heavy return from Muse and does anybody know what Jamie Oliver did to annoy CMAT?

Single of the Week: Joey Valence & Brae featuring JPEGMAFIA – WASSUP

Good grief, how did we miss this track last week? Joey Valence and Brae are always excellent value, old school hip-hop in a Beastie Boys-esque style. This track is just a blast from start to finish with JPEGMAFIA bringing the additional firepower.

Muse – Unravelling

One of the greatest musical live acts in the world. Their first proper music in three years, aside from a couple of collaborations, is a surprisingly heavy return. Muse have done heavy on and off over the years, but I can’t remember the last time the guitar sounded quite this crunching.

An intriguing offering from this Irish band with a couple of EP’s under their belt. This is the first single, a very good single, from their debut album due out in September.

Celeste – On With The Show

What an extraordinary voice and talent Celeste is. Every release evokes goosebumps. Can we have the album tomorrow? Plleeeeeeease.

Loyle Carner – time to go

A last single snuck out alongside the very decent new album. Hopefully, we will get a review out in the next few days.

The Molotovs – Today’s Gonna Be Our Day

One of the most buzz heavy new bands out there right now. This is a very good second single, if a touch old fashioned. Sharp clothing, a great live reputation and a clear love of The Jam. Ones to watch closely.

Sam Fender & Olivia Dean – Rein Me In

A reworked version of the album track that came about by Olivia Dean supporting on his current stadium jaunt. Dean is a fantastic talent in her own right and her contribution really lifts this one.

The Hives – Paint a Picture

Whilst Swedish apprentices Viagra Boys have been having a great year, the grand masters of Swedish rock are back to remind people how utterly brilliant they are. Alexandra Palace awaits in November.

CMAT – The Jamie Oliver Petrol Station

It isn’t quite as immediate as the two brilliant singles that preceded it, but the new album is clearly going to be a key release this year. We were on Dice the second a September gig at Rough Trade East went live and still ended up going straight to the waiting list!

The Black Keys – Man On A Mission

The Black Keys have not had the best couple of years, but this is a timely reminder of how brilliant they can be when firing on all cylinders.

Loads more on the playlist in a busy week including Miles Kane, Kenya Grace, Alessi Rose, Four Tet, Joy Crookes and many more.
