A week bursting with fresh sounds and new artists. A lot of good songs this week with 26 tracks selected for the playlist.

Single of the Week: MORN – Modern Man

So fresh this is the debut release from the South Wales band. On the morning of the 30th of May they had just 9 followers on Spotify, that has jumped to 419 a day later and expect it to spiral from there.

Vocalist and guitarist Oliver Riba comments: “It’s a desperate sprint through the loneliness and madness of routine, a strange reflection on the dream of escape. It felt right that it was all captured live, and Dan Carey really brought it to life with a touch of his magic. Welcome to the world of MORN.”

Bucket loads of energy, confident delivery and real playing ability. They are at the Windmill in Brixton on the 14th of June. We will be there.

Kate Nash – GERM

In a week where I saw jasmine.4.t and got to hear first-hand about the horrific discrimination the Trans community is currently experiencing this song feels ABSOLUTELY essential. Brilliant statistics and Kate Nash is taking no prisoners. So nearly single of the week.

caroline – Coldplay cover

One of the undoubted highlights of their brand new album caroline 2. A stunning track assembled from two separate mini-groupings of the band recorded in different rooms. There is magic here. On tour now.

GANS – IT’S JUST LIFE

What a single, what a band. Every gig forum you drop into at the moment is full of whispers about these guys from Birmingham supporting various other acts and how they blew the audience away. They are at various venues and festivals in the coming months. Debut album GOOD FOR THE SOUL is out on the 19th September.

KennyHoopla – even as if never//

I have followed Kenny Hoopla since catching a great set from him at Reading 2023. This is somehow both driven (through the directness of the drumming) and swirling, whilst the guitars are constantly present, they are hard to define and pin down, a glorious wall of scuzz.

AJ Tracey – 3rd Time Lucky

The singles from the new album have been really enjoyable. This one is very personal and makes it very powerful.

Obongjayar – Holy Mountain

The singer of Fred Again’s wonderful ‘Adore You’ here releases a single that plays into his Nigerian roots. Could be a very good album.

Also on the playlist: Whitney, Foxwarren, TOPS, Pendulum, The Sick Man of Europe, GHOSTWOMAN, Maria Iskariot, Poptones, Rise Against, Olivia Dean, HAIM, Wet Leg, Yungblud, BABYMETAL, Thom Yorke, EtaCas, Cliffords, girl in red and Getdown Services.
