The Purple Turtle is absolutely rammed for this show from the Hackney based rock band and they do not disappoint.
Formed in 2021 at a music college this young band are quickly creating more of an impression with each and every release. They kick off the show with their brand new single ‘Aurum’ which we very nearly gave Single of the Week to. It exudes a finessed classic rock sound. Kyla Lanai has a great vocal style, her tone has a lived in quality that belies her young years, and she also knows how to rock the keytar, never the easiest of instruments to handle.

Next is straight into the equally brilliant ‘Cynical Little Girl’ which the audience laps up. This track has a slightly more garage rock blues tone underpinning it. An unreleased track labelled ‘LIDB’ on the setlist gets an airing.

Another unreleased track, ‘Starstruck,’ follows. One of their earliest songs ‘Few Too Many Times’ sounds fantastic. The sound in the Purple Turtle is absolutely on point all day (it is easily the best venue at AYL? that we attended in terms of proper sound and lighting) and these young ladies clearly know how to set up well in a hurry.

There is a third and final unreleased track, ‘La La La’ before they take it home with ‘6.0’ and ‘Hypocrite.’ It is a phenomenal 30 minutes of music. There is a huge well of potential in this group. They have a great sound, and it seems likely they will find their audience over the next couple of years. Any rock music fan is going to walk away very happy from one of their shows. This is a tight-knit, well-honed outfit that are increasing in confidence with every release. Highly recommended.
