Like Game of Thrones, this week’s singles comes down to a battle of different houses. Will it be House of Women or House of Protection taking single of the week?
Single of the Week: House of Protection – I Need More Than This
Just edging out House of Women, the LA duo are going from strength to strength. Following a guest spot on Architects recent brilliant album and supporting Poppy on tour a new EP is coming on May 23rd. This track mixes between a slightly mellower mood and the more full-bodied assault they are known for. The outcome is a track distinctive from the rest they have recorded.

House of Women – Aurum
Playing at The Purple Turtle on Saturday as part of Are You Listening? and if this doesn’t make you want to go and check them out, I don’t know what will. Over the last couple of years, the London trio have beefed up to a five-piece band and boy are they sounding good on their new material.
Turnstile – SEEIN’ STARS
This new album has clearly seen some experimentation in direction for Turnstile, across this and Never Enough they are at times barely recognisable. They already had a huge fanbase, these new tracks will likely bring more people into the fold. SEEIN’ STARS gives off huge 80’s rock vibes and the outcome is fantastic.
Suki Waterhouse – On This Love
Seek out the video directed by Suki’s sister. Answers on a postcard what on Earth that is all about. Video aside, the track ploughs the slightly southern gothic style that is all the rage right now. She is at Reading Festival and will be worth seeking out on the strength of recent material.
BAMBII feat. Jessy Lanza and Yaeji – Mirror
I am there for anything Yaeji does and this is a great collaboration between all involved.
Nilüfer Yanya – Cold Heart
I enjoyed ‘My Method Actor’ but didn’t think it as great as others did. This new track I am really loving.
Jorja Smith – The Way I Love You
Jorja Smith is on track for national treasure status. I don’t think anyone has a bad word to say about her and she mixes between lush slower tracks and dancefloor garage bangers with ease. This track is firmly in the latter camp.
Kae Tempest – Know Yourself
Wow, this is brilliant. Kae samples their younger self to create a conversational track between past and present. The new album should be great.
Alison Goldfrapp – Find Xanadu
Alison Goldfrapp will be 60 next year, which blows my mind as she retains the musical drive of a much younger artist. Felt Mountain remains a transformative album experience in my memory, there have been so many hits since. This is an absolutely solid slab of electro-disco heralding a new album later on in the year.
Panic Shack – Girl Band Starter Pack
They are playing The Bullingdon soon but sadly I can’t make it. Panic Shack are always fun and this lively new track should land well with Indie crowds on a night out.
