Sooooo many good tracks this week. All on the playlist, no time to discuss them all here.

Single of the Week: Mark Pritchard and Thom Yorke – This Conversation

Hard choices for single of the week but this collab between Radiohead and The Smile’s Thom Yorke and Warp records stallwart Mark Pritchard edges the rest out. The upcoming album started out as a lockdown project with the pair swapping beats and ideas.

Sleep Token – Emergence

The makers of my favourite album from 2023 are back with a new single ahead of a new album in May. This doesn’t have the same woooooooah impact that ‘The Summoning’ possessed before ‘Take Me Back to Eden’ but there is much to enjoy on this six-minute epic. Some elements are established Sleep Token hallmarks however saxophone is definitely a new development.

HAIM – Relationships

Jack Saunders played it three times in a row as Radio One’s Hottest Record in the World last week. I’m not sure it is quite good enough to warrant that but this a great slice of guitar based pop music.

Lauren Mayberry featuring Joe Talbot – Sorry, Etc, Etc

This track from Chvrches singer Lauren Mayberry gets a rework with Joe Talbot talking on a number of the vocals. It works very well.

Chappel Roan – The Giver

This slab of staight up country pop music is a bit jarring after listening to ‘The Rise and Fall of a Midwest Princess’ however it makes sense given her background and impeccable instinct for a popular sounding tune. Of course, this being Chappel the lyrics cut against most typical country lyrics with their clear LGBT leanings.

Bon Iver and Danielle Haim – If Only I Could Wait

With every release the new Bon Iver album looks likely to be something very special indeed.
