Great new tracks from Reading Indie Life favourites The Certs and Baby Said this week along with locals The Dazed Minded.
Single of the week: SOFIA ISELLA – Josephine
Sofia Isella catches the eye and the ear more with every release. This gives full on early Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds vibes in all the best ways. Catch her at Reading Festival.
SPELLING – Destiny Arrives
A good track from a fine album due out later in the month. This is intriguingly all over the place, mutating several times across the four minute run time.
The Certs – Repetition
Pedal to the floor guitar track with a nice breakdown towards the back end.

Spiritbox – Crystal Roses
I am not a convert to Spiritbox and have struggled to get into their albums, I do really like this single though.
Billy NoMates – The Test
More tuneful and melodic then some of her spikier, punkier work. Almost an 80s female led rock group vibe here. Very good.
The Dazed Minded – Harder To Ignore
Following up the fantastic ‘Oh Boy’ this is also a very, very good tune. Reminded me of Republica and Elastica but it is most definitely not a museum piece. Catch them at the ‘Are You Listening?’ Festival in May.

Primal Scream – Innocent Money Pet Shop Boys Remix
The original track had a distinctly disco feel. The Pet Shop Boys are a top guilty pleasure of mine, they are superb and I will die on that hill. For this remix Neil Tennant provides some additional backing vocals and Neil Lowe updates the disco groove for the dance club with an array of beats and synths.
Baby Said – Burn
This latest track shows they do different gears. Here the heavy duty riffing is dialled down for a genuinely beautiful track that would have sat nicely on Sheryl Crow’s best albums. Their best vocal work to date.

Rachel Chinouriri – Can We Talk About Isaac
The lyrics leave you with more questions than answers, but the lyrics go over some of Chinouriri’s best musical work to date.
Black Country, New Road – Happy Birthday
Going for seven years and formerly nominated for the Mercury Music Prize for their debut album this almost feels like the music industry is catching up to their style. The baroque edges feel ready to jump through the hole The Last Dinner Party have now opened up into the mainstream.
