Incoming crazy value free gig with Baby Said, The Dazed Minded and The Certs – Get down to the Purple Turtle in Reading on Monday the 10th of February at 7:30pm.
Wow, any one of these bands would be a steal at a free gig but all three together is an insane ‘Heavy Pop’ talent-spotting special. If you haven’t come across Baby Said yet, they are an absolute power-rock monster of a band headed by young sisters Veronica and Jess Pal. The girls have an outrageous way with a classic rock riff, honed from hundreds of gigs in their cover band. They are now ready to start conquering the world with their own excellent tunes.
Veronica and Jess kindly took the time to answer a few questions ahead of their Reading appearance.
Reading Indie Life: For people turning up at The Purple Turtle in Reading who might have not heard your music before – how would you describe yourselves? What can they expect from a Baby Said show?
We’re a pop-rock band who likes to bring a lot of energy.
You played the BBC Introducing Stage at Reading and Leeds Festival last year. How was that experience? Did you get to go and see any other bands?
It was a very surreal experience, one of our dreams come true! We did get to see a lot of artists that we liked and ones we had never seen before who were all incredible.
You are clearly big Måneskin fans. What is it that you love about them? Who else would you say has had a big influence on your music?
We love Måneskin’s sound and vibe with each other and everyone else when they’re on stage. Arctic Monkeys inspired us to love and create hardcore riffs, we also grew up listening to a lot of pop artists.
You are close to releasing your debut album. How many of your previous releases are likely to feature and how much new material can we expect?
We are releasing our debut album single by single.
Does being sisters in a band make it an easier experience, or can the disagreements be even more intense?
It feels slightly easier because you know each other well so you can let loose easier and you know what styles you like. Disagreements can sound more intense to other people but we’re half Italian so…(hehe). Overall we are usually able to settle disagreements quite quickly. It’s also nice to have family on stage with you.
Do you have a bucket list of things you would like to achieve in your musical career? Is there something that if it happened you would be like, ‘Yes, we have made it!’
Being able to go on our own headline tour.
Artists often break through now after going viral with a bedroom made track having very little live experience. Do you think your large number of gigs as AstroModa gives you an edge? There seems something pleasantly old-fashioned about it.
It has helped to shape how we perform on stage and has definitely helped to build our characters.
What does the rest of 2025 have in store for Baby Said?
We’re going to keep releasing music (our album) and try to do as many gigs as we can and most importantly, have fun.
Get down to the Purple Turtle next week and get in on the ground floor of several of the next big things in music before they catch fire. Reading Indie Life will be there!
